On October 9, 2017, the Passionist community at Holy Name Retreat Center in Houston, TX celebrated the 150th Anniversary of the Canonization of St. Paul of the Cross with a Solemn Mass celebrated by Bishop Brendan Cahill, Ordinary of the Diocese of Victoria.  This jubilant celebration was attended by the retreat center staff and their families, board members, patrons, and visiting concelebrating priests.  St. Paul of the Cross had dreamed of gathering companions who would live together in community and promote the preaching of faith, compassion, and loving redemption.

Beginning his quest in 1720 to establish a religious order with this mission, it would take twenty-one years before St. Paul received papal authority from Pope Benedict XIV in 1741 to constitute, “The Congregation of the Passion.”  Today the “children” of St. Paul are worldwide in their mission to preach the passion, death, and resurrection of our Savior.
