Ash Wednesday

This is a journal entry of mine 33 days after the death of my husband, Deacon Mike Mims. I think it says all that needs to be said of Ash Wednesday….

“February 18 2015  Ash Wednesday

1st reading from the book of Joel, “Even now, says the Lord, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning. Rend your hearts and not your garments and return to the Lord your God.”

Ashes to Ashes and dust to dust seems much more crazy true this year. Mike is literally ashes!!

God built him (Gen 2:7) from clay, from dirt in the ground and now he is in the guest room (for now) dust again.

If I believe in an eternity with God, and I do, then Mikes 50 years of power packed life was for him, a passage to eternity with God.

The dust doesn’t really matter.

So, how am I taking this lent to move my life toward that goal of dust and eternity with God?”
