Blessed New Year

Each year I have a question that I ask myself, it is in my calendar as an event and therefore continues to remind and prod me annually. The questions asks, “how are you closer to your goal of being a saint today?”

Each year this question prods me to reflect on my year and the good and the bad of it.What ways that I have evolved and changed from last year? Am I praying more? Am I attending mass more frequently? What about confession and retreat? Am I taking those seriously and attending them with an open heart?

This is the time of year where we make new resolutions for our lives. Perhaps we are resolving to do better as a wife or a mother, a father or partner? These are great things! Resolutions to take better care of our bodies, exercise more or lose weight, great. What about work, resolutions to be better, work more efficiently? What about money resolutions to save more, spend less and share more, all good.

But the question remains, “How are you closer to your goal of being a saint today?” That is the bottom line isn’t it? That is the goal of each of us? Be a saint. I may never be a named saint with a date in the Church Calendar, but I do want to make it into heaven. I do want to gaze upon the face of Christ and live in His love forever. That is my goal, and my prayer for you is that it is yours too! So, the question stands, “How are you closer to your goal of being a saint today?”
