Blessing of the St. Michael Statue
St. Paul of the Cross experienced many ‘angelic’ interventions in his life, especially at the hands of St. Michael the Archangel during the tribulations of the early foundations. He invoked the assistance of the Guardian Angels before and during every mission he preached. His repeated experiences of being protected by St. Michael the Archangel, and the Guardian Angels led him to have a profound devotion to them. He also named St. Michael as the Patron of the Passionist Congregation.
With the generosity of a benefactor and after some of our own ‘tribulations’, we finally took delivery of a beautiful statue of St. Michael which is seated in its permanent place near the entrance of the Retreat Center. From there, He extends his watchful peace upon all who come and go from the center.
A Mass on the Feast of the Archangels was celebrated in honor of the tradition we inherited from our Founder and in devout supplication to St. Michael for his protection. Special thanks to the Auxiliary Bishop of Galveston-Houston, the Most Rev. George Sheltz, who graciously presided over the liturgical celebration and blessing. St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us.
