Love, Forgive, Pray
In the office of reading was Psalm 35.
It starts out, “Contend O Lord with those who contend with me fight against those who fight against me!”
This sounded to me like an Old Testament version of Stick and Stones.
‘Turn the other cheek’, ‘Trust in the Lord’. ‘Do not be afraid’. God is always reminding us that He has got this. It is not our job to judge, it is not our job to retaliate, it is not our job to strike back.
It IS our job to pray for and love all those around us, even those who are pernicious or spiteful. Love, forgive, pray especially for them!
In today’s society as we prepare for the upcoming elections in a partisan world, let us remember this. Let’s let God do for others what we pray He does for us and that is shower us with His Mercy. I have a sign in my home that says, ‘ Grace is when we get something we don’t deserve, and Mercy is when we don’t get what we deserve.”
We are not to judge, that my friends is Gods job.
Once we start on the road to trying to play God, we get into some really big problems, just ask Adam and Eve!
